“I've been listening from the beginning, so I thought it was time to put out a review. I'm finding this personally useful as I try on for size ideas that I'm unfamilar with. I appreciate how you bring to the fore theologies already present in the Christian tradition which can help us discuss systematic violence (like the Vincent Lloyd episode). I also appreciate the intersectional approach of the podcast, asking how leftist politics can bring something new and meaningful to discourses of racism, homophobia, patriarchy, colonialism, etc.; it is always done in a context, so that the utility of the theories are shown and not dryly discussed without a context for discovery. The Socialism 101 Episode was helpful for bringing those newer to socialist and communist theory (i.e. me) up to speed on some base theories, like transcendent vs. materialist frameworks and what they each emphasize. Loved the episode with Melanie on residential schools so that I could think about systematic violence nearer to home. Would love to have an episode on feminism and marxist theory, if possible, as well as more 101 episodes.”Read full review »
“Dean and Matt do an excellent job of discussing the nuances and challenges of being a Christian leftist in our contemporary world. I cannot recommend their work highly enough!”

“Discussing the intersections of Christianity and socialist theory is pretty much a unicorn; Christ tends to be reduced to only a great moral figure or Christ is elevated so much that one questions if other faiths could be included in the socialist vision. I’m hopeful for this podcast, though. I...”Read full review »
