Compelling and Comprehensive
This podcast is ambitious in its scope, and, given how critical maritime matters have been throughout history, is set up to be very nearly a history of civilization. The author seems to try to do his best to refrain from getting too off-topic, which must be excruciating for him, given that podcast covers so many fascinating civilizations, and thats just by the time he is getting to the Phoenicians. When listening, I find myself sometimes wishing he could stick more to naval matters, but can never really find anything in particular I'd want him to cut out. If there is one thing I'd like to see more of, myself, it would be more emphasis on the engineering and technology of related fields. The Canal of the Pharaohs, for example, seemed to get only cursory mention, but it will hopefully come up again. Also, as a landlubber, I always have a hard time wrapping my head around the advantages of various sail configurations, so going into more detail on those would be helpful.Read full review »
