Unique and excellent
A wonderful find and unique in so many ways. First, the focus on the role of maritime trade and war is great. We normally only see the role of the sea in isolated ways (The Phoenicians were great sea-faring traders. Athen's mastery of the sea helped them fight the Spartans. Etc.), but having it front and center drives home how important it was. Second, it's a great lens for looking at the intertwined histories of the various Mediterranean civilizations. Add in some fun side-voyages like a reading of "The Report of Wenamum" and you've really got something. Brandon's enthusiasm for the subject is contagious and his research solid. His delivery was fine at the start and has continued to improve. He also maintains a great website, which is especially valuable for maps and for illustrations of the various types of boats he discusses.Read full review »

My new favorite podcast, very informative and well-written and the choice of maritime history as a topic deserves credit in itself.
