Fascinating and Really Well Done!
70% of the earth's surface is covered with water. 99% of history podcasts focus mainly on events that take place on land. Brandon Huebner, with The Maritime History Podcast, is doing his part to solve this problem. I discovered this show pretty recently and honestly I can't say enough good stuff about it. Commerce and trade - particularly waterborne trade - were the forces that organized and departmentalized human civilization. Maritime history tends to play second string next to other topics in history class - the soap opera of emperors and queens, great land battles, innovations in architecture and the arts. Next to these, maritime history can seem rarefied and inaccessible. After all, when most of us hear words like "schooner" or "brigantine" or "trireme," we're hardly dealing with everyday topics. Yet maritime history, rather than being an esoteric subfield, should really be at the forefront of our study of different eras of human civilization. It's that important, and that definitive. And Brandon Huebner knows exactly how to make maritime history shine.Read full review »

This the Golden Age of the specialized podcast, but not many succeed like the Maritime History podcast. It has lots of meaty, well-researched content, but doesn’t get lost in the sort of detail that only a specialist could understand. Accessible without being remedial. Excellent.

Brandon is taking us way back to the start! Not just the big boys' toys that are Ships of the Line but the whole nine yards. Early days but shaping up very nicely. Subscribe.Read full review »
