“It was in the 1980s that funding for mental health services was phased out all across the country. That was a mistake. The burden fell on law enforcement, which as you note, they are not trained for. Police should be returned (or "freed up") to do police work, and our support network for the people under stress, which is most of us at this time, should be rebuilt.
Second point: it is understandable that DOJ/Merrick Garland needs time to build an iron-clad case against the former president for the seditious insurrection. What is NOT understandable is why DJT is still on the street, agitating, riling up his magamob, taking potshots at the process of holding him accountable. We had FOUR YEARS of obvious non-ambiguous crimes during his administration—beginning with illegal funds for his inauguration, for christ's sake—why isn't he in jail, incommunicado, waiting for his indictments to be handed down? The sooner the mob's head is cut off, the sooner the mob comes back to reality and stops promulgating alternate realities spun by their messiah.
Third point: in my opinion he whole abortion debate is being incorrectly framed by pro-choice advocates. It shouldn't be about "a woman's right to choose," it should be that a blastocyst is not (yet) a human being. Affording full human rights to a dozen cells opens up so many cans of worms we cannot go down that road. What would it mean for IVF? What would it mean for miscarriages?
