A Rich World with a Little Bit for Everyone
Metamor City is a rich world where Science Fiction and Urban Fantasy come together and some how marry each other. There is a mix of several parts of this world. Chris Lester has a rich world to work off of. The stories are engaging and have a lot of content. There are also different flavors. He's pulled together a lot of the people who have done Podcasts before him into one place and one world. This is what makes this podcast unique. He has a large voice cast working for him. His stories up to Making the Cut explore various aspects of this world as he leads into the larger novel and story. This podcast is unique since he considers it a shared world that others can contribute to as well. Making the Cut itself explores the world of the telepaths in this city. The background is very much like a Role Playing Game and he admits that he used the backdrop of one role playing game and Modernized it for this podcast. He does have a minor weakness in his podcast for using the Mirror trick too much. Which is non-POV character info dump on their appearance. In laymen's terms that is dumping info about the character in a way that the character from that point of view wouldn't see themselves as. I would love to see these scenes either put into character point of view, such as, "I think I look fat. Gods, what has happened to my butt. Is that cellulite?" A person in every day looks in the mirror and looks at the things they want to *change* or things that have *changed* not what was and always will be. He does a fantastic job of integration later on of physical features, so these can be really shortened or dumped off--he should trust himself more! He usually covers that ground later. It does show trust between author and reader when you don't immediately try to control what the reader thinks the people look like. Plus how many sparkling mirrors are there in this world? However I just skip over those parts and the rest of the story runs smoothly. (He really doesn't need those sections. He's a good enough writer to begin with to not need to put all the physical descriptions in one place in the story.) Beyond that he has a rich world I appreciate. I would love to see something about the backstabbing politics and less than stellar look at the upper class and the political structure of the higher ups. (Such as a mayor, or whatever). But he's been hanging that over us for the entire podcast, so I'm sure he'll deliver!Read full review »

Found this while randomly searching for new podcasts in itunes, loved the original short stories and I currently find the novel very interesting. If you enjoy urban fantasy you should definitely give this a try.

One of my favorites! The stories drag you in right from the beginning and keep you coming back for more. The characters are well-developed and fully believable - I've found myself teary-eyed on more than one occassion. Chris puts out a very professional product with background music and...Read full review »
