Better than it has a right to be
Look, this is not Serial or Criminal, the two podcasts anyone interested in crime should listen to. Ward is often self-aggrandizing, she makes psych diagnoses even while admitting she lacks information, and there’s a lurid, late-night movie element about the whole production. That said, the cases themselves are incredibly intriguing, and Ward and her team do, to be fair, do a full amount of research. They also tell the story well, and the interviews with the killers, even with the distraction of Ward saying they may have borderline personality disorder based on one conversation, are still fascinating. And the production values are top notch (not a surprise, given Discovery’s backing of the project). I’d prefer a host who was a little less concerned with selling her own brand, but there’s enough good stuff here to still make listening worthwhile.
