“I was listening to episode #57 - The Hijack - She talks baout how people thing "oh I haven't experienced trauma" then how if we do identify with it that the word trauma brings us mentally to our specific trauma type- but it's such a large word and experience - For me the resonating here is that it took me until I was 33 to know at all that I had a traumatic childhood- took me as an adult to go to therapy after my father died and I had to them put my borderline mother in a facility. It still makes me uncomfortable to use the word trauma even though it's totally real. But that reality is new.
I recently had an experience that made me truly realize that my fight, flight or freeze response is extremely heightened and easy to trigger. I didn't have the vocabulary to say that I was being "hijacked" - thats exactly what is happening. The moment I feel a threat (not the thread of a 35 year old woman but of a 5 year old girl for example) will send me into a moment of not being ale to get back- I NOW HAVE VOCABULARY FOR IT- it's crazy- that is exactly what is happening and learning to get back from that moment is incredibly difficult to do bc it isn't rooted in logic”Read full review »
