Interesting story let down by repetitiveness and tacky production

This is a great podcast. The content is so riveting that I continued to listen even though there are a ton of hard-to-hear and rambling interviews.

An amazing piece of journalism and one of the best podcasts I have ever listened to. A modern day parable of fraud, greed and human fallacy. The interviews with the victims in Africa was heart breaking.

Meh
This podcast had a lot potential however failed t deliver. They repeated a lot of info multiple times and honestly felt like they didn’t even try that hard. When they came up against the first sign of resistance just went the other way. Also why not hire a PI? Sounds like they guy had a lot of...Read full review »

Easily one of the best podcast series of 2019. So captivating that I finished the entire series in less than 24 hours. It’s a must listen!
Gran0480 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/21/20
This was a good podcast, edited well. My problem is with the leads the host chose to follow and the assumptions he chose to make. I would talk to someone with either little knowledge or a vested interest who would tell him something spurious that he would turn into a tent pole of the investigation.

You might be out off this podcast at the thought that you know nothing about crypto currency - don’t concern yourself! This is an amazing story of how millions of others, who knew nothing about crypto currency, invested their savings into this scam. The audacity of the people who created and...Read full review »

No doubt the story is very interesting and captivating, yet the delivery is so repetitive and slow. The audio quality is very inconsistent and makes it hard to listen. Sounds like it was made by an amateur.
rd-1a via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/20/20
Not sure where to start. Just WOW. Audio is a perfect medium for this story. No visual influence. It’s unsettling, reveals so much about people, about success, about deception.....and different angles and possibilities keep appearing. The music is absolutely phenomenal.
Scarlet_Shoulder via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/13/20
The story is interesting but each episode is way too repetitive. Might have been better as a single episode with all the repeated stuff cut out. The lead presenter’s faux amateur style wears thin after episode 3. A well structured edit would have made a world of difference.

Excellent but ultimately sad because those who really need to hear this may never. And then new copy-cat schemes keep popping up...

I can’t understand though why the whole scam hasn’t been properly investigated. Worldwide people are being sucked in for the hope of a better life, especially those who really need it. I was gripped through the whole podcast, listened a number of times and think this deserves an award, not least...Read full review »

Brilliant piece of journalism. This is why investigative journalism is so important. Forget the 8 o’clock news that is more based on hype.

Great in-depth podcast. Very clearly explained about cryptocurrency which I knew nothing about before. Only minus is episode 8. So anti climatic.

The ONLY thing I wish is that they didn’t play the chanting music so often. Felt unnecessary and got a bit annoying. Otherwise I loved it!

I knew nothing about this story but found it fascinating and very thought provoking, Amazing how the poor continue to be robbed by the rich ! Hope they keep going with their investigations.

It was a fantastic podcast. Research properly done, interesting and very far from boring. I am so sad they came so close and they finish the series. Hopefully there will be season 2!

How does the world not know this and why isnt it front cover news? Shocking story. Great podcast.
Evie Lemos via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/29/20
This was a great concept but with poor execution. I’m surprised the BBC have put their name to it. The main issue is that the victims were grilled harder than the perpetrators by the journalist which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. The journalist seemed to be scared to actually do his job, he...Read full review »

Sounds like an interesting podcast but I found it too difficult to listen to. There is a barrage of different background music and sound effects that I found so jarring I couldn’t concentrate on the narration or interviews

Very interesting. It’s scary how slick this scam was. The unsung hero of the podcast is the beautiful music.

It broke my heart listening to the interview you had with the young man and his mother in Uganda

This is a great story and not one I’d heard of before I came across this podcast. The presenters tell the story well but there’s not enough content for eight episodes and it felt dragged out and repetitive at times.
hollyuc via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/15/20
Great story, but the podcast could have been done much better, not the best of BBC investigating.
Joel.Miller via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/14/20
Interesting story ruined by horrible music every 2 minutes. What possessed the producers to think this was a good way to present this story.
EnglishVegan via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/13/20
Surprised to see this so highly rated. The story itself is interesting but there wasn’t enough material for 8 episodes. Very slow and repetitive. The music is overused. This could have been great but needed a lot more editing.

A great story - mind blowing. You really could not even make this stuff up if you tried.

An incredible insight into the cult of cryptocurrency. Jamie and Georgia travel across the globe to unravel the tentacles of One Coin, the biggest scam of its kind. Highly recommended
Op99999 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/08/20
Nice story but have your finger ready at the 15-second skip button. If I have to hear that stupid jarring female choir chant one more time... Some people just have no brain, man. What must be going through your head to do this and think to yourself, “Yep, this definitely contributes to the story.

Mesmerising podcast. Started listening and then got hooked up. Keep up the good work 👍

Fascinating podcast series! You couldn’t make this stuff up even if you tried. Feel really sorry for the people’s lives that have been ruined by the One Coin scam.

I listened in on this because of a rave review I read in the Financial Times. I am American lawyer who reads the FT every day because I think it is the worlds best newspaper, so I can't figure out its recommendation. This is something like junior high school students would put together. It is...Read full review »

We need more!! Great to know that investigative journalism lives on in such a compelling format - wishing you every success to finish the story and perhaps even enable some justice to come from this (and stop more poor souls).

Presented lots of complicated and interesting stuff quite well. But the use of music was — I can’t even find words for how atrocious it is. Interrupting conversations with whaling chants. This has got to be the worst possible sound production I’ve ever heard. And I’ve watched plenty of horrible...Read full review »
