Modern Drummer Podcast w/ M&M = Happy!
These Modern Drummer podcasts that feature Mike Dawson and Mike Johnston could not be more valuable. To start, you get two vastly different perspectives colliding around a shared love of drums and drumming. Mike Dawson is the creative artist/philosopher type and you can hear that in both his playing and observations. Mike Johnston, meanwhile, is the beautiful mind meets mad professor and this comes through in the way he dissects and deducts like only a mad scientist drummer can. The end result is that their collective opinions offer such fresh and entertaining takes on various topics such as drum techniques/concepts, equipment and component discussions (drum shells, for instance), product reviews, and even quick tips and suggestions. And their takes are informative and spot on. They’re pros. To give you an idea of how good these podcasts are - I recently broke my right leg and ankle and there is NO COMFORTABLE position for me. I have to keep my leg elevated (per docs orders) using either my broken fibula as the fulcrum or my broken ankle, which are both losing propositions. Thankfully I have been listening to these podcasts because it’s the only distraction that keeps me from obsessing over the pain -- and I'm on meds too. Thank you Mike and Mike.Read full review »

Mike and Mike make fun and informative drum podcast. I like how it expands on information in the most recent issue of Modern Drummer. I have enjoyed all 28 episodes so far and look forward to a new one every week.

Been listening to this podcast for several months and find it inspiring and super insightful. Just how Mike J. remembers how reading the magazine made him feel "In-the-loop" this podcast makes me feel the same.Read full review »
