Big Stars, Restrictive Questions
Mario’s Morning Shakeout newsletter is great. I’m excited to read it because it contains new information and commentary over what I see in the news and Instagram and Facebook. His training updates are insightful, too. His podcast has great potential because he attracts big names, but his interview questions are too narrow. The Shalane Flanagan episode was great because she took liberty with the questions, but I found myself bored with most other episodes because the guests can’t really tell a story with the narrow questions asked. For example, Mario asked Amelia Boone what outcome she was looking for in her next race if place and time weren’t options. I think his podcasts would be more interesting if he asked more open-ended questions that lead to conversation and winding stories. Nicole Antoinette does a great job with this - check out her Real Talk Radio podcast for inspiration.
