“I don't write reviews, but I'm breaking my rule because I'm overflowing with gratitude for this podcast and it's the least I can do! I just caught up on all 100+ episodes in about a 4-month time period and will soon start them again with my husband.
Dr. Heiser's teaching is not new. He connects the listener with an OLD understanding of Scripture. The Church has lost connection with this understanding as the divide widens between formal scholarship and the layperson in the pews. I think of these as being on two sides of a river with a bridge crossing over. Mike brings things from the scholarship side and comes to the middle of the bridge to pass them off to those of us who have come to the middle from the layperson side. He equips us to take what we've learned back to our churches and Bible studies. Meanwhile, our own faith is greatly enriched as we assimilate the "Divine Council Worldview" and recognize its implications throughout Scripture. He rebels against doctrinal systems, but never against orthodoxy.
It's encouraging to me to listen to a true scholar who has examined the same evidence that has led some to conclude that the Bible is not trustworthy, but who has instead found that this evidence enhances the depth and richness of what it means for God to have spoken in written form. Many knots have been untangled in my mind and I have stopped skipping or avoiding parts of the Bible.
Thanks Mike and Trey for all that goes into the production of this podcast!”Read full review »
