27. Defining Health on Your Own Terms
Description
Ever wonder how to navigate letting go of dieting when your family talks about dieting or you have a family history of health concerns?
On today’s episode, Sam is joined by fellow registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor Melissa Landry. Melissa helps her clients break generational diet trauma and heal disordered eating, and she’s bringing her expertise to today’s discussion!
Sam and Melissa begin the episode by discussing some current nutrition and body image topics. They chat about reality tv and the beauty standards that are created from tv shows, a conversation that they are continuing from Melissa’s podcast last year!. They also discuss their thoughts and some of the things they are seeing with GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Ozempic.
Then Sam and Melissa jump in to talking about family dynamics and diet culture. It’s really common for our clients to try to diet to improve health concerns because they’ve seen a family member experience those same health concerns. Melissa and Sam share their thoughts about this and give some great tips for how to shift your mindset if you’re experiencing this situation.
In this episode, we discuss:
