Self-Care for First Responders Essential Strategies to Prevent Burnout and Enhance Performance with Chris Chandler-Yates

Description
In this episode, Chris Chandler-Yates shared with me his personal experience as a police officer and how that rebuilt his life after a career of trauma. Being a former police officer has really influenced him a lot into doing what he does now. Chris joined the NZ Police in 2011 and after a seven-year career, he experienced severe burnout that caused him to leave the job he once loved. After a journey of self-care, recovery, and personal development, he's now hyper passionate about helping officers take charge of their mental health and significantly reduce the chance of burnout. He lives to ensure others learn to see themselves so they don't go through the pain he once experienced. Chris speaks very vulnerably and openly about the personal challenges he faced from burnout, such as almost breaking his marital vows, as well as some of the tough cases that led him there, and the impact they still have on him today, such as losing his sense of smell after one particular case. Chris is incredibly real, and I know he’s not the only officer who has struggled to this degree…but he is one of the few who are courageous enough to speak about it in a public forum.
