Plant based misinformation
I was thrilled to have a source of contemporary information on PCOS. As those with it know, so much of what doctors advise women on, with PCOS is dated info and can lead to worsened symptoms. The 1st half of the Gut Health episode was great! Then you got into opinions on a plant based/vegan diet. I was crushed at how little both knew about the benefits of veganism and PCOS. The host suggested that it was worse bc it’s “carb heavy”, this is no more true than a meat based diet being “carb heavy”. Today we have so many options that are low carb. The guest made note that protein is a big concern for vegans. That is a concern from the 90’s, now we know an array of plant based complete proteins that also have phytonutrients and fiber (not found in meat). And fiber is hugely important to gut health. I was so saddened to hear this part of your program bc I personally suffered every PCOS symptom for 18 years BUT when I decided to try out veganism, the weight I spent years getting down, vanished. My energy and moods rocketed and I could run for the first time. I felt so unburdened by this PCOS daemon. I now have met a number of women with the same story and we give veganism the credit. In your program I worry you are doing a disservice to those that are coming to you for help by saying they should not turn to a plant based way of living as an option. I hope you have an opportunity to have more interactions with the positive outcomes of pcos and veganism, it’s made my (and many others) Pcos symptoms immeasurably better.
