“Civility
A word not often used to describe a political discussion.
Jay and Michael disagree on many issues, but it never devolves into name-calling or even yelling. Both defend their positions rationally with well thought out arguments, and (usually) give each other time to talk through those arguments. Of course, both are still passionate about their positions, so it's a great lesson in self control when they agree to disagree.
It's not the news.
The topics on the show aren't only focused on the current primary election shenanigans, although their analysis of that is why I started listening. The topics range from political philosophy to history to present day issues. It's great to balance the circus/ soap opera antics with useful information about how and why our government works.
They're fun!
Who knew that politics could be entertaining without the yelling? The Guys' friendship is clearly evident in each episode. For me, the mood is the (very well educated) neighborhood guys are sitting around the bbq geeking out. It's casual, conversational but full of insight and information.
