“I was 16 when Robert Kennady died , i had a real
interest in US politics and was particularly effected by his death , for exactly the reason that the both of you articulated so well . He was cool ,complicated , not in any way a perfect man or a hero in a white hat . He was very late 60s and seemed to me to have a capacity for growth denied other politicians , like a band progressing to more and more complex and memorable music with each new album. I think that capacity might have taken him to the Presidency but there was also always the terrible prospect of a bullet waiting somewhere for him .
The series about the 60s in the USA was great , can you imagine anyone quoting from the Greeks now , if a politician mentioned Homer people would assume he was talking about the Simpsons . They were big figures JFK , Johnson , King , RFK , Nixon and Reagan, and had an epic quality totally lacking in their current successors. Many thanks for another great series .
Best wishes , Nick .”
