“I've listened to dozens of podcasts. I've become particualr about what I look for and the level of quality I expect.
Though the subject of this podcast is genre/culture soecific, most notably the early days of the sex entertainment business (film mostly), the craft and execution of this production places it amongst the very best of what is available out there anywhere, on any subject.
Of course it's interesting--it's about sex! But it's also funny, culturally informative, very human and remarkably touching. The use of music--even though it is usually well-worn 70s staples--is often times surpising in how much it moves me in its relation to the performer/producer etc., they are interviewing.
Many of the interviewees are icons. Legends in a much-maligned, multi-billion dollar industry. The public makes many assumptions, cliches really, about who these people are, why they do what they do and where they come from. But, when you finish listening to these episodes you will be struck first and foremost by the fact that these people are simply that: people. Human beings, with lives and dreams just like all of us.
They are often fully cognizant of the ramifications of their decisions and bravely made them anyway, owning who they are because of their on-screen experiences but also who they were long before they ever posed for a single nughty photo.
The hosts need to be congratulated for putting a human face to these...pleasure puppets. These people we intensely desire without ever knowing.
