“What I've learned recently by listening to Rich and reading his book is that the only way to live a healthy, fulfilling life is by balancing mind, body, and spirit. Most of us focus too much on mind - through higher education and whatnot. We can learn about and improve our body through books, other podcasts, blogs and science magazines. But Julie represents the voice in my head I'm afraid to listen to - the voice of spirituality.
If Rich's aim is to represent the example of a balanced man, then Julie is the piece that most of us are missing. It's easy to focus on the mind and even the body - men are typically good at the hard sciences. It's this third piece that we're missing, and - at least for me - have been afraid of throughout life. I don't know how to be spiritual. I don't know how to believe in something on faith alone. Julie has at least helped me listen to my spiritual voice - as muted and unsure as it is.
She is a very important piece of the equation in getting Rich's message across. If Rich were doing a blog on just triathlon training, fine, but let's be honest - other listeners are complaining about her because she touches on an area they are uncomfortable talking about or dealing with.
I for one am appreciative of her counterpoint and her ability to discuss really uncomfortable things so openly and freely. And I would probably suppose that I am representative of the silent majority.”Read full review »
