Serious Talk
The continual excoriation of people Mr. Rubin calls the regressive left, which sounds like an impersonal, antiseptic term coined in order to make it easy to verbally flog a deserving villain without getting personal, reminds me of the writing in comic books--it doesn't seem to help describe something that people should see as a serious issue. And, really, those of us not brought up in the Upper West Side, or other affluent areas, and who don't hobnob with Ivy League folks, are probably not unlucky (or lucky?) enough to meet Mr. Rubin's regressive leftists often. Mr. Rubin does appear to remain fastidiously civil and calm during his discussions--but maybe that's not always such a good thing. He doesn't seem to have much passion or desire to really scratch the surface of the topics he picks. It seems almost as if he is doing this podcast in order to talk about talking about being honest and open about serious issues. Well, if that works for him, and others--well, good for them.Read full review »
