“I really appreciate this podcast, which has a wonderful range of guests and whose conversations range across some original, moving terrain.
If I had a suggestion, it would be to tighten up the start of each conversation, especially the first question to each guest. If you’re a regular listener, you don’t need the first question re-re-re-explained; most guests are plainly familiar with it too, because you can tell they’ve done their due diligence and listened to previous episodes. It’s a great question, but it’s actually quite simple, and it loses its power with the circuitous explanation each time (which could be edited out when/if it does need to be explained to the guest). Better to cover it in the intro, e.g. “As always, I jumped right in with Guest X, beginning with the question that begins every conversation in this podcast: ‘In its most expansive sense, and aside from your closest loved ones, what is sacred to you?’” - and then cut straight to the guest’s answer.
Trust the guest, and trust the audience. We understand what you’re asking. Bring us into the conversation with momentum and clarity, and allow us to enter into the heart of the exchange that’s about to unfold.
Thank you for your excellent work!”
