As someone with little to no knowledge of classical music but wanting to get into it, I found this was a brilliant introduction

Since this series is not available to play or download, take it down, OK?

I can download every podcast I have found except yours because the episodes will not download. Pls correct this problem or consider taking the show off line entirely.

These are really interesting little podcasts with some brilliant commentary but they are let down by the decision to barely include any of the music they discuss. It is supposed to be a podcast about music!

I subscribed to this podcast, but when I try to download - get the message that I am not authorised to download these podcasts - does anyone know why this is? Thanks

Love Howard Goodall since I saw his old programs on Ovation and Youtube. Awesome podcast!

I don’t know a lot about classical music… so this was a wonderful way to learn more. It focuses not on the most popular or familiar pieces, but ones that illustrate (and even created) change and innovation in classical music over the centuries. Informative, understandable, entertaining.

As a music teacher, composer and someone who loves learning I must say a big thank you and congrats to these two presenters. Howard, you have been part of my and my students music education for years. A great concept, good anecdotal evidence and lovely music. Win win combination!

These are beautifully crafted little gems, each a window on to a different world with music as the interconnecting thread. If you like any kind of music you will find these fascinating.

There should have been a series of much longer radio programmes to complement the TV shows and yes, the podcasts would be better with the music (which they DO play on Radio3). However, Howard G is the ultimate teacher: un-stuffy but has total authority. Every podcast is a treat.

Great series, I have gone on to listen fully to some of the pieces spoken about here.

A podcast about 50 pieces of music which contains almost no music at all. A bewilderingly stupid decision to not include the music.

I've listened to the first three. Utterly illuminating. If you have any interest in music, this is worth a listen.Read full review »
