What has happened Matt? I used to enjoy your podcast but since the launch of Times Radio this has gone downhill Boring and it just doesn’t work. Come on you can do better than this.

Please, please, please abandon this one segment, one interviewee format recently adopted and return to your panel of columnists that made RedBox such a great listen. I can’t believe it is just me who is longing for it. Feels like you’ve just been dishing out a load of repeats from your radio...Read full review »

More PMQ breakdowns please! That was really good.

Matt....u and chatted directly on twitter few days ago re bias and Times radio / ur podcast.....replay this back and and listen to ur obvious snide, jibe-like Qs on Cummings and Boris.....why do it? Subtle they maybe, but that makes them more powerful....and were out of context of rest of...Read full review »

Thoroughly enjoyed the idea of a talk Thru of PM questions

Sad
The best weekly political podcast has sadly turned into a feed of daily radio clips.
youvebeentangod via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/05/20
The ‘new’ format of a half hour extract from the radio show has been very poor so far. Nothing but a platform for ex-politicians to publicise their new books and charity positions with little or no insight or comment on today’s issues. And much as I like Richard Curtis’ films, why on earth...Read full review »

Consistently terrific insight into politics which seems to have transferred into a daily “best bit” - perfect for a 30 minute dog walk on an evening!

A journalist who reveals one of his own newspaper colleagues (David Aaaronavitch) as irascible and ill-mannered deserves huge respect. Chorley’s beery good cheer only grates occasionally given his many qualities.

As Matt morphs over to Times Radio, he needs to remember the need for challenge. The interview with Marvin Rees showed the Bristol mayor to be a decent person, but he made a few points that needed challenge. It was far too much like a slot for Mr Rees to say whatever he liked. If there’s no...Read full review »

I love how Matt and Esther manage complex issues. What an amazing interview with the Mayor of Bristol: a measured but powerful, personal and political response to recent events in the city. A lesson to us all and I certainly learnt so much. That’s how to discuss sensitive topics.

It’s been almost three years since I first discovered the Red Box podcast at the 2017 Labour Conference and I have been an avid listener ever since. Matt does an excellent job of guiding the podcast through a diverse range of political issues, both inside and out of the UK, assisted by a...Read full review »

Great one for non-UK residents, definitely the one to listen if to if you can only listen to one, decent balance of constituencies, parliament, gov, polls and interviews!

Absolutely love this podcast, as I told you at Matt Forde’s gig. Though, sadly I can no longer listen to this in the gym! The balcony is not a bad 2nd place though. Thanks Matt - getting me through lockdown!

If Times Radio is as good as this then it’ll be a must listen. Always good for a listen to cheer myself up, despite the Universe being run by the Elite who we were supposed to be voting out in 2016. C’est la vie!

I listen to a lot of podcasts and this is easily the most engaging for a Brit looking to understand the UK‘a place in the world.

It is funny listening to the older podcasts and the London centric option of the so called specialists. How wrong they where.

My favourite lockdown political podcast - informative, excellent analysis, but also has a light tone, which is important in the current circumstances. There is only a certain amount of negativity I can handle each day; this one doesn’t stress me out!

Critical without being cynical, wonky without being boring and entertaining without being superficial - if I could design my perfect political podcast - it would be the Red Box Podcast.

When I don't have time to listen to all of my politics podcasts, I choose this one above the others. Chorley asks the exact questions that go through my mind as I absorb news over the week and his guests give solid, meaningful answers with enough dry wit to keep it interesting. Would love to...Read full review »

I’ve been listening to this podcast for years and am only sorry I’ve never got round to leaving a review until now. Seeing the pod land in my queue is a genuine highlight of the week. I still listen. It’s OK. But there’s only so many unknown Tory ex-spads I really need to listen to. Matt is still broadly charming but the guests. Oh dear. I’m not particularly sure what insight an underling at Portland or some other public affairs outfit has to add.

...this podcast is thought-provoking, fun, insightful and human. It is a relief to find that Red Box avoids the partisan point-scoring kind of opinion-news which is all too plentiful these days. It is about politics and people, and acknowledges both are messy and messed up and does not enforce...Read full review »

Matt and Esther make a superb team, introducing intelligent and knowledgeable guests. I don’t always agree with everything everyone says, but what would be the point if that, talk to yourself if that’s what you’re after. The humour is just the right level and is never unkind without being...Read full review »

Insightful, irreverent, brilliant podcast - I think it may have been the original reason I opened the podcast app on my iPhone! Access to Matt Chorley and Esther Webber’s sparky brains + (I can’t think of a better word) banter with guests should be on prescription. Invaluable for anyone keeping...Read full review »

An enjoyable listen with great guests and good analysis. One criticism though: please PLEASE don’t talk over PMQs. It’s infuriating not being able to hear the question and reply. Pause the audio and give your response afterwards - I do want to hear that too!
giraffehaveabath via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/19/20
I used to love this but I now often delete before the end. This is losing its objectivity and too apologetic for the Tory party. Can Matt Chorley please stop laughing at his guests’ weak jokes. Poor John Piennar, what have you done joining this lot.

I’ve enjoyed listening to these for many months, cheerful, intelligent, thought provoking. Thank you.

It’s ok but would be better without the constant attempts to be funny . Addition of Esther Webber obviously a box ticking exercise it can’t be for what she offers
Luke knavesmire via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/12/20
There are some very interesting interviews but the coverage of PMQs recently was dreadful, let people listen the the PMQ first then comment!! Talking over everything was just excruciating.
Jdubya74 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/12/20
Used to be very good, but there is too much emphasis now on trying to be funny. The PMQs commentary sessions are awful - they simply talk over the original PMQs by repeating what the MPs are actually saying, or adding inane comments. No insight at all. Esther Webber is not a good addition.

Matt Chorley is a cheery guy down the pub, interested and engaged. He asks sensible questions and doesn't seem to want to force his own opinions in the questioning line unlike the new woke BBC.Read full review »

Just an awful assessment by their US reporter. I follow US politics fairly fairly closely, but from a distance and am more clued up than their guy. Normally a good listen when not their views on the US.

Matt & Team What a ridiculous podcast with the Speaker. Several hundred of people are dying daily and its all fun and games in parliament. Today „technology“ is NOT a problem, so getting parliament to „sit“ on-line in a real and effective way SHOULD NOT be a problem. Just get it sorted,...Read full review »

Decent pod but it shouldn’t be that hard to impartially analyse the “left” of the Labour Party without resorting to the conspiratorial tropes. The giggling also gets a bit tiring after a while.

I really enjoy this Podcast and other Times podcasts . BUT. And it’s a big but. At this time of worry, concern and a very real health threat to us all. How tasteful is it for the podcasts on this subject and others, to be sponsored by funeral undertakers?
Steelhead21 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 03/26/20
Half an hour of relevant information and laughter. Looking forward to the next show allways. After 2.5 months life is finding it’s new normal here, which is still far apart from the old normal. Let the Redbox stay to be a beacon in these weird times. Best regards Eric
