Much depends on the columnists who are on - Aronovitch and Finkelstein consistently good, for instance and I have got used to Matt Chorley’s blokeish delivery - which I quite like. Drop the focus group item - it was awful just now PS. The question by question analysis today of PMQs with Patrick...Read full review »

Highly recommend, Matt is both interesting and amusing and often gets to the nitty gritty missed by others!

I subscribed to this show, hoping to hear some well-informed, objective political analysis. Sadly, Matt Chorley and his columnist guests appear to be poorly researched and far too politically prejudiced to produce a decent programme. It sounds like a desperate attempt to be the GB News podcast....Read full review »

I don’t understand these complaints about the sound. It sounds fine.

Sound quality lets down the content of the podcast.

Why aren’t podcast producers capable of making each segment the same volume, including the sections previewing other shows? Alternately unintelligible and deafening. It’s a common problem but this podcast is guiltier than most. Presenter and content is great, production poor. It can’t be that...Read full review »

Please sort out your sound levels. No sooner than I adjust sufficient to hear what’s being said, the sound level boosts to max on the podcast and leaves my ears ringing. I have tinnitus and am trying not to make it worse by keeping sound to a safe level - just low enough to hear but no...Read full review »

A good podcast spoilt by ongoing unresolved sound problems.

Used to listen to this regularly but the patronising tone really started to grate. I just don’t think these people understand Brits at all, certainly not the vast majority of us anyway. Just so condescending in their views and pandering to every government whim. Unsubscribed.

I listen to the Pod casts every day and Matt Chorley is excellent such a change from the excessively woke radio 4 As has been said by others, please do something about the sound quality of sone of Times journalists, please supply them with decent kit and training in use of a microphone Tax...Read full review »

I started listening to the podcast during lockdown and it is now one of the pleasures of my day. It is informative, interesting and it makes me laugh out loud. I am delighted that it now broadcasts 5 days instead of 4. Well done Matt Chorley.

Not sure why the production team find it so hard to provide better sound. Too quiet, often distorted, Matt’s slight mumble doesn’t help. Occasionally entertaining but too often laughing over serious issues which is sometimes hard to swallow. David Aronovitch and Danny Finkelstein are fab....Read full review »

Totally out of step with the public on taking the knee/Priti Patel issue. Cutting at your pearls as well as clutching at straws this week

Not the best of the current affairs podcasts, and the fault is glaring. The panel discussion that precedes the main event is an opportunity for some silly B list commentators to grandstand. I don’t often shout as I’m listening but the one about mask wearing (this week) was crass. Get rid of it...Read full review »

Normally light hearted and interesting. Today three journalists shrilly mocking those that disagree with them. Doesn’t make for good radio or a podcast

Well, I was hoping for some balanced coverage of PMQ’s but had to endure 45min of sniping attacks on the PM. Should just save us all the time and rename this the Labour Party Fanclub. You even took time to to dismiss someone who wrote in telling you you were obsessed with Matt Hancock. For the...Read full review »

An excellent listen and I’m sure this review will help the podcast fly up the Mumbo Jumbo Chart. This review written on the day that Matt Chorley was compared to Alan Partridge in his own newspaper column!!!

Excellent broadcasting journalism which provides thought provoking analysis across the entire political spectrum.

Matt Chorley is great but some of the Times columnists he has on are terrible. They write very eloquently but on the podcast they can barely string a sentence together. One in particular sounds like a posh Vicky Pollard: yeah but no but like er you know er like. Shocking!
greigwithani via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 06/11/21
Love Matt Chorley, manages to tread the balance between funny and irreverent with serious issues and intelligent discussions. A great interviewer who brings the best out of his guests and manages to get politicians to broadly open up without giving the standard stock answers.

Usually a good podcast. Listening to the most recent episode - waffling about the royal pissing yacht for fifteen minutes?!?!

So what class is Red Box - well they’re resolutely centre left socialists who keep their hands clean and, mostly, live in London? So they’re Middle Class!

This review is more in sadness than in anger, but as others have said, this podcasts seems to have got worse over time. I’ve found this podcast has simply become both more boring and more patronising over time. Most episodes can be summarised as you (the listener) are too stupid to understand...Read full review »

This has tanked since the format changed from a bespoke podcast to a repackaging of a radio show. Shame, as it used to be excellent.

Having listened to your Times Radio show and hearing that the podcast featured the best bits thereof, I expected it to be shorter.

I like the mix of analysis by experts (eg via focus groups) and commentary. Whether I agree with every commentator or not, they are usually entertaining and it’s useful to hear opinions different to my own. Sometimes I even change my mind on topics

Still really enjoying this, particular highlights - Chorley’s style, finklevitch and the focus group discussions.

Came here to leave a review because I felt bad after Matt mentioned some poor reviews and the fact some people didn’t like it... only to find an excellent score of 4.5 stars. There’s no pleasing some people clearly. Nonetheless a great pod. Particularly enjoy Finkelvitch (excuse the spelling)...Read full review »

Helps me keep up with the news in an interesting and varied way. Ignore any negative reviews and personal insults- they should be more grateful for a free, 40 mins discussion per day!

I really enjoy the format and also the variety - re other reviews: DF and DA are extremely articulate, Ok they are both men but they are a very good pairing- and there are plenty of women on the other shows. Used to be a Times subscriber but gave it up a few years ago when the balance shifted. Thought I’d give the podcast a listen being a great fan of John Pienaar but he’s no where in sight. Chorley’s formula can be engaging, despite the facetiousness. But I don’t understand why he and Times Radio persist with parading the lugubrious and nasal voices of Danny Finkelstein and David Aronavitch. They are great intellects and write well, but they don’t work on podcasts and radio. Replace...Read full review »

A really boring radio show of centrist daddies reiterating the usual trite common places of polite society as if new and interesting. Good for a sociologist interested in a close study of the platitudes of 45 to 65 years old middle and upper middle class London. Nothing wrong with the common...Read full review »

Used to be good around a year ago but now it’s just a number of posh journalists moaning about “populism “, no real actual discussion.

Please can Rachel Sylvester be paired with some one else, as she is usually worth listening to, whilst Libby Purves salivating over Petri Dishy Rishi every time she’s on most empathetically is not .

Matt Chorley is an excellent presenter but couldn’t we have a bit of a different perspective from commentators, the mostly north London liberal remainers. The only ones in anyway insightful are Danny and Esther. John Kampfner especially is incredibly condescending and predictable.
countymad via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/05/21
Always loved the podcast but loving the new format of a bit of chit chat then a feature. Chorley’s cross between humour and serious politics always makes the show a joy.

Presenter a bit too chummy…not quite as bland as the BBC Brexitcast nonsense but could do with a wider variety of opinion other that liberals.
