Episode 117 - Children's Services Referral for a Planned Homebirth Against Medical Advice
Listen now
Description
In this episode, my client Esther bravely shares her experience of planning and preparing for a homebirth against medical advice.   Despite ticking many 'risk factor' boxes, which included having a previous c-section and fibroids, Esther was keen to give birth at home.  She had done alot of research and preparation, and was confident that her decision was safer for her and her baby than a repeat C-section.  Even after discovering at 38 weeks that the baby was now in a breech position, Esther and her husband were still happy to continue with their plan, and saw breech birth as a variation of normal.  When a referral to Children's services was made by her midwife however, because of her decision to give birth at home, Esther knew she had alot more work to do to ensure she was well supported.    This story is becoming typical of ones we are hearing up and down the country. Where women are asserting their right to give birth in the way that they want, and are then being reported to Children's services in an attempt to get them to comply.   This level of coercion has to stop, and so it helps that women like Esther are speaking up and sharing their stories, to help prevent this from happening in the future.  If you would like to buy a copy of either of the books that accompany this podcast please go to your online bookseller or visit Amazon:- Labour of Love - The Ultimate Guide to Being a Birth Partner - click here:-https://bit.ly/Labouroflove The Art of Giving Birth - Five Key Physiological Principles - https://amzn.to/3EGh9df Pregnancy Journal for 'The Art of Giving Birth' - Black and White version https://amzn.to/3CvJXmO Pregnancy Journal for 'The Art of Giving Birth' - Colour version https://amzn.to/3GknbPF You can find all my classes and courses on my website - www.sallyannberesford.co.uk Follow me on Instagram @theultimatebirthpartner Book a 1-2-1 session with Sallyann - https://linktr.ee/SallyannBeresford Please remember that the information shared with you in this episode is solely based on my own personal experiences as a doula and the private opinions of my guests, based on their own experiences.
