“I'm split on this one. On the one hand, I appreciate the attempt to examine Trump supporters in a cool-headed, objective way—to look at their stories and try to understand their anxieties rather than attack them and accuse them of racism etc.
BUT at the same time, we've reached a point in this election cycle when (in my opinion) there is no excuse, no story, no anxiety that can be justifiably translated into a vote for Trump: Trump is a dangerous, mysoginistic, racist, fascitic, corrupt, criminal, lying, cheating, manipulative demogague. Even listening to the first episode, which features the story of a kind woman named Patty, I found myself really frustrated that the interviewers didn't push back against her false convictions (i.e. that Mexico is consciously sending criminals to the US). We're now past the point where I don't want to just UNDERSTAND the frustrations that have culminated in a 42% chance (as of today) that Trump will be the next president of the United States. We need to FIGHT against the lies and anger and racial hatred that fuel his candidacy. And this podcast is an attempt to be journalistically objective and passive in the face of the a potentially massive crisis. And this is not the kind of journalism we need right now.”Read full review »
