“First, Laura Beil is a national treasure. She is hands down my favorite podcaster, and not only has one of those perfect voices I could listen to all day, but she’s a ridiculously talented writer. I blew through Dr. Death and was obsessed with the series and the powerful, deliberate story telling backed with tons of research and first-hand accounts, I’ve been looking forward to another podcast by Laura.
As a former smoker and someone who tried vaping I appreciate this podcast and the urgency of the topic. The fact that teen nicotine use is up is a big deal. It should be a legitimate concern for everyone. It took me years of quitting for it to “stick” more than ten to be exact. I started as a teen. And when I tried vaping, while still burning my lungs, it always brought me right back to menthol cigarettes. My ex boyfriend vaped religiously and it left film on our car and apartment windows, imagine what it does to your lungs?
Great podcast, great topic, and PSA to the reviewers comparing Laura to a Valley Girl Karen and calling her voice “whiney”. Those comments are sexist and offensive—think I’m wrong? When would you ever describe a man that way? The podcast is pretty impartial, taking a very journalistic approach to the explosion of teen nicotine use. This isn’t about the war on drugs. Nicotine and Tobacco products like alcohol have been legal for ions and have lobbyists and special interest groups working on their behalf. This is a candid and unbiased look at how one company changed the demographics of tobacco use in an alarming way. And it also covers the active role of convenience stores not carding—something that seems to be the main culprit here in my opinion.”
