Best Hearthstone Podcast for Standard Constructed Meta Analysis

“This review is written after listening to the first four episodes of this new podcast. In these four episodes, the podcast has managed to carve out a niche that distinguishes it from other Hearthstone podcasts--it focuses almost exclusively on the standard constructed meta and acts as a useful companion to the weekly Data Reaper report issued by Vicious Syndicate. It does not replace the weekly report and it is not simply a summary of the report. Indeed, if all you care about is knowing the best decks in the meta and how they match up with each other, then you probably could skip the podcast and just read the report. But if you care about a thoughful analysis of the underlying mechanics of Hearthstone's standard meta and card-game design, then this podcast is a valuable addition to the report, containing insights that expand greatly upon what is found in the report. The podcast is structured as an interview of ZachO, chief editor of the report, by RidiculousHat, a class expert for the report. (RidiculousHat is a co-host of another Hearthstone podcast, Coin Concede, which has been killing it lately with great interviews and is highly recommended.) The conversation is generally all business, without banter about personal lives, Hearthstone personalities/competitors or anecdotes about individual games of Hearthstone. I am fine with this, since there are other podcasts that conver this space more than adequately. The discussion so far has been largely tied to the specific constructed meta at the time of recording each episode, although episode four contains a really insightful discussion of the interplay betwen classes and the difficult task Team 5 has in building up the current meta in future expansions. It's a particularly fascinating and perceptive discussion, without being too salty, of the tricky corner that Team 5 has painted itself into. Even if you discover this podcast long after this review is written and the Hearthstone meta has moved on, I suspect episode four will still be well worth a listen. I wish I had the power to require the members of Team 5 to listen to it, but, alas, I'll just have to hope. If the makers of the report are looking for suggestions for future episodes, I would be insterested in hearing about some of the behind-the-scenes debates among the report contributors and perhaps deep-dives into the strengths and weaknesses of particular classes. No matter what, I look forward to listening to the podcast in the future and hearing how it evolves.”Read full review »

“Great podcast. Just wish Ridiculous Hat would put Zach in his place a bit more. Zach tends to drone on and on while most people find Hat’s insights better.”
