“The Village is an incredible and detailed look into the investigation on the disappearances of men of colour and of lower socio-economic status in Toronto’s church-Wellesley village. But it doesn’t stop there. It begins to detail a history of the relationship between police and LGBTQ2IA individuals. It’s a great resource for anyone curious about why the relationship between the queer community and the policy; or even other marginalized groups, is as thin as a hair. It shows a continued pattern of behaviour from police which includes a lack of respect for queer lived-experiences across decades to explain why the investigation unfolded the way it did. As a gay man with brown skin, who sees himself in some of the victims, who frequented the same establishment. it’s difficult to listen to. It could have been me. I consider this required listening for everyone. Especially at a time when everyone’s social literacy on social justice issues of racism and discrimination is challenged. Canada is not immune to the unrest we see south of the border. To be involved in those conversations you need to be educated and this podcast can be the start of that journey for many. This review is written by Pflag York Region President Tristan Coolman and is endorsed with the full weight of our organization.”
