Still have questions though
I love the teachings of Thich Nhat Hahn and I appreciate you two having these conversations… but I find some powerful dimensions missing. I’m leaving it open ended, but I’ll mention them here for us to contemplate and maybe answer: Yes the way out may be in and our true happiness may be from ourselves, but how do we factor in community? And family? And love? Can we not take pleasure from love? How to live well with one another, like, how do we relate with one another to maintain strong relationships and networks? Maybe not relying on each other for happiness, bu surely, it’s okay to indulge in laughter and joy and love? ——— Also regarding erotic energy… I see deeply erotic energy (not superficial lust) the way Audre Lorde puts it, as a political force. Our deep erotic pleasure and joy is an intuition, it is a way for us to know what is truly good for us in this world. And I think it’s okay to follow our intuition and follow what deeply turns us on… it’s important to have experiences and learn. We learn through suffering certainly. That’s what Im adding to the conversation: To ponder how we can Inter-be while still only finding happiness within… and that Erotic energy and pleasure is actually an important intuition.

I was lucky enough to be in the presence of Thich Nhat Hanh in 2012 when the Plum Village sangha came to London. There was a Sit for Peace...Read full review »
