“Before this episode started, I thought to myself: God I hope this is a straight, no nonsense review and recommendation podcast, befitting NYT standards. I hope it’s not like most crappy podcasts that feel its necessary to constantly make smarmy jokes, and have ‘casual conversation.’
Then I heard the laughing and the joking. I had to strain to get the actual information, and even when it came, it was drenched in conversational asides, that sometimes seemed to downplay the information!
I do not like this style. The Wirecutter was a breath of fresh air on the internet, because it was serious, had a job to do, and seemed unbiased. But this podcast is just more of the same internet wankery. How are we supposed to know when something important is being said?
Maybe research shows that people want to hear subjective, unserious joking around all the time. But on a show that is supposed to actually help you, when you are lost in the dark, I beg you to change styles and be clear and bold!”
