Why is this woman a target of so much hatred?
Interviews with JK Rowling & others exploring the success & backlash to the Harry Potter series. So far (ep 1 & 2) this series is aiming to put into context the initial backlash from the fundamental Christian right in the US. For a younger audience much of this might be the first time they are faced with the events of the era. For most of us who lived through that period it’s nothing we don’t already know, it’s hard to forget the lunacy of Diane Ehrensaft’s hypnosis of children leading to a panic about satanic ritual abuse, but still interesting to revisit. No doubt future episodes will be addressing the latest reincarnation of the backlash against JKR, this time triggered because she dared to say that in a civilised society women deserve rights. Witch Trials really is a very apt title. Sems like the series is going to be very much a US focussed, so it’s not going to reflect the more moderate situation in the UK very well, but still it’s fascinating listening so far.

Covers a wide range of issues surrounding J K and the HP books, putting the issues into a wider context. Fascinating listen.
