Explanation of international affairs with no editorializing
There are sometimes guest hosts when Jim Lindsay or Bob McMahon are away but it's usually those 2, and they always manage to strike a good-natured, matter-of-fact tone as they discuss the dramatic events that are about to shape the world. This podcast is the only source of commentary on foreign affairs I know of that is purely informative, that has no political leaning or underlying message, and that you can finish in one car or train ride on the way to work. The show is presented in a conversation format, but really the hosts stick to their job of giving the listeners explanations about important events that are about to happen along with context. For example, if regional powers in South America are preparing to state a commitment to intervene in Venezuela, in which daily life is currently characterized by runaway inflation, unemployment, and scarcity of food, the podcast will not assume you already know all this, but rather will quickly bring you up to speed and then explain the significance of the regional powers' anticipated statement, usually by offering some possible consequences for it and also by offering a brief historical perspective--how such an international commitment in that region is unprecedented and how the Maduro regime in Venezuela might be seen as a manifestation of the current trend towards populist regimes worldwide, perhaps--all in a nutshell. This podcast will help you become conversant in international affairs.Read full review »
