A Thoroughly Engaging Podcast for any True TV Fan
As someone who believes television is our greatest storytelling format, and is interested not in its costumes or make-up choices but its writing, the Nerdist Writers Panel provides the insight into the crafting of television's story and character creation that I crave. Not only can it teach TV fans about the truths behind how our favorite shows are born, raised and euthanized, it can also provide hope for the fantasy that we too could one day write for television. Along those lines, it asks every panelist for their own origin-in-television story and advice for the fantacizers out there. It may embolden some listeners to take the leap and move to the city of television dreams: L.A. It also provides comfort for all struggling or non-struggling writers that the craft is difficult at any level. Loving yourself as a writer is apparently not a pre-requisite to success. The panelists, a true cross-section of television writers, are entertaining and honest in their tales. Ben Blacker is a lively and thoughtful host. Much like the art form it discusses, the panels can sometimes be a tad formulaic. Perhaps queries about what prompted creative decisions specific to each panelist would spice things up. The only other occasional issues are audio problems and the occasional panelist who "uh huh"s after every statement made by other panelists. But these are common problems for the podcast genre and not to be faulted. Five stars for my favourite podcast.Read full review »

This podcast makes my bus/bike ride a little piece of creative inspirado. There isn't anything about this podcast I DON'T like and getting the opportunity to hear real writers talking about process, making it and writing…it's inspired me to start trying to step away from writing...Read full review »
