Helpful but lacks diversity
I am a trainee person centred psychotherapist and listen to this podcast every week. I find it really helpful, I love the conversations about process which happen between the therapists after each show and I appreciate being able to listen to ‘real’ therapeutic sessions. However, I do find myself fatigued by the lack of diversity in the guests who are selected. Often white, more often than not incredibly privileged and/or wealthy and/or ‘posh’. While it’s important to acknowledge the universality of the struggles in being human, I do think that there is distancing and a lack of real connection with the material when the only people we’re listening to are from a very specific social strata. Intersectionality should be at the heart of this work.

It’s hard to find the appropriate words for this interview Julia. Charles is an extraordinary person as is anyone that has to deal with this kind of trauma. I wanted to reach in to the interview and hug him. You spoke to him beautifully. As always.

Love this podcast. So relaxing listening to such insightful discussions and real life experiences of such complex, and sometimes heartbreaking, situations. Julia’s empathy and understanding transcends through the conversation and is a joy to listen to.
