“I used to enjoy this show, but the last episode (SVU S15 Ep15) was incredibly upsetting and offensive. I should have realized it was going to be bad when the guest started the episode by saying it was wrong that more cops are being held responsible for excessive force and abuses of power. He ended the episode by showing more sympathy for comedians who get heckled than for rape victims.
The host Kevin wasn't much better. Neither of them seemed to understand why people hate rape jokes. When you make light of rape, or make comments demeaning rape victims, not only are you insulting someone who has already been violated in the worst way possible, you are also making it less likely that survivors will come forward because they're afraid of being the subjects of ridicule. You're making it less likely that survivors will get the help they need, and you're making it easier for rapists to go unpunished and possibly rape again. Is your joke really worth all that?
Maybe before you cover SVU episodes, take a moment to consider that there are survivors who listen to your show, and there are rapists that are listening too. What do you want them to hear?”Read full review »
