A uniquely accessible survey of classical thought!
I am not a Lutheran. In fact, I am a Latter-day Saint—something at which the majority of listeners/reviewers of this podcast would sneer, sadly. I’ll come back to that. This podcast does well to introduce laypeople to topics in the classical liberal arts (philosophy, analytic language, intellectual history, etc.). The podcast also explains Lutheranism very thoroughly and in a manner delightful to the Lutheran fold. I would agree with *some of* the reviews here that point to the flippant and smug attitudes shared by the hosts regarding Catholic and Evangelical Christian world views. I would extend that, if you’d indulge me, to include the ham-fisted and smug discounts of Mormon thought that pop up as hisses and bywords here and there throughout the series. Like all freshman in their first apologetics seminary class, these gentlemen neglect to address LDS theology as more than just a cult or an incoherent ramble of frontier American Christianity. I imagine their knowledge of Mormonism comes from one class they took on “cults” from a professor who knows just barely more than they do. What I see in that is yet another example of an utterly embarrassing ignorance of a thorough, robust, and philosophically coherent world view/philosophy/theology. The unfamiliarity with Mormonism, coupled with its nonchalant dismissal by the hosts, is cringy and awkward. Altogether a great podcast, though!

I love this podcast and find it very encouraging. The pastoral heart of the speakers as they talk about theology and Lutheran thought is refreshing. I am grateful they take the time to make this gift of a resource.

One more thing to look forward to on Fridays is a new episode from this podcast. As a Christian you may have many theological questions especially if you have grown up in American Christianity. This podcast has been so helpful for me in answering those questions and helping me have a better...Read full review »
