“I'm writing this review as of their 5th episode, so I do want to say this show has promise. But as it is, newly launched, some tune-ups are badly needed.
The two hosts of This Week in Marvel have a good rapport and really seem enthusiastic about their material. However, as Marvel employees they are forced to be excited about every single item they discuss. So instead of an actual highlight, what you really get is a run down of everything Marvel that comes off like an hour-plus infomercial, trying to sell you every bit of it. I almost expect a host to say "BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE…"
Of course being official they can't truly be honest or objective, but without any creator interviews or backmatter additions, it feels wasteful. Given that not every item will be of equal importance to every person, a web page would truly be a better delivery method for this content. In print you can skim most and read what is of interest, but without chapter markers here I have to listen equally about X-Men and Wizard of Oz...
And worse, the show is poorly produced. Actually, it's not produced at all. It has the sound of two guys chatting possibly unaware they are being recorded. If the show is edited, it doesn't seem that way at all as the hosts stammer through sentences, stating incorrect items then hastily correcting themselves. There is often background noise of other office-mates chatting. Worst of all, on the fifth show one host had a chronic cough. Any other podcast I listen to would have edited those out, either by pausing when the coughing fits hit, or by perhaps having a sub host for that episode. It is the epitome of lazy and careless to release a show sounding like that…
Still the guys are good. If they supplemented this with some interviews, perhaps used it to release a few tidbits of upcoming news (versus their printed press releases), and edited it this could deserve the #1 iTunes rank it holds. But for now…it is a tolerable listen for die hard Marvel fans only.”Read full review »
