Little Help Here?
No question that Kara Swisher is one of the best, if not the best, technology business writers working today. Her scoops, exclusives and sources are second to none. Her podcasting skills, however, leave a bit to be desired. Swisher frequently interrupts and talks over her interview subjects as well as Lauren Goode, her charming co-host. Bizarrely, she does this just as something critical is being said. It's possible that she equates this to a casual, conversational style but it comes across, dare I say, as amateur. There are many great examples of co-hosts and ensembles on radio and podcasts that have a conversational dynamic without constant interrupting. Swisher also has strange habit of trailing off at the end of her sentences, barely pushing oxygen through her lungs and losing all manner of projection. Under-the-breath snark simply doesn't work in an audio format. Again, witty and cleverly biting as she can be, her affectations may work well in an "off-mic" real-world dynamic, not to mention in print. On the podcast it makes Swisher seem either insecure with her broadcast voice or indifferent to her listeners, neither of which is particularly endearing. Cutting some slack: Swisher has decades of top-notch journalism and conference hosting experience. She's new to the radio/podcast game. Hopefully her colleagues and employees can provide some constructive feedback to get her radio voice to be as bold as her personality.Read full review »

Informative, but there's way too much dialogue lost when both women don't cede the volume.Read full review »
