Ugh! This could be fifty times better than it is
I really wanted to like this show. The episode I heard had a great guest, fascinating topics, and the opportunity to be very enlightening. Just one snag: the host will not shut up. This is a common problem. Chris Matthews on MSNBC has similar issues. Kara Swisher is obviously a super-bright and knowledgable person, and super-bright people can be extremely annoying. That comes as standard. Most annoying is that she's unable to keep quiet long enough to let her guest speak uninterrupted. Aside from a regular 'uh-huh' and 'yeah' and 'hm' every couple of seconds, she repeatedly mumbles inaudible things and will sometimes talk over the guest so that we can hear neither of them. It's not intended to be rude, I think it's simply a matter of a) an unself-conscious host who has yet to discipline herself into shutting up and listening; and b) a certain lack of appreciation for the reality that, while, to her, it might seem like she's engaged in a private conversation, it's in fact being broadcast, and other people are listening too. People who, as the show wears on, are becoming more and more irritated by her constant interruptions. If you know this woman, if you're a friend and she trusts you, please take her to one side and explain to her that she doesn't need to talk all the time, it's okay to listen without dominating the conversation by butting in. Some small refinements now would make all the difference to what otherwise would be a fine podcast.Read full review »

I love the idea of this podcast, and the episodes are well-thought-out and focused. But Kara REALLY needs to work on her broadcasting skills; in particular her propensity to only begin a sentence while someone else is talking. This makes the show almost unlistenable for me.

Such a great podcast! Super informative but also hilarious. I love Lauren and Kara together, they're a great team and the banter is just the best. I listen every week, and you should too!Read full review »
