President-elect Donald Trump has announced he will nominate Fox News host Pete Hegseth to serve as secretary of defense. Hegseth is a veteran of the Army National Guard who served tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Hegseth has previously worked for Concerned Veterans for America and hosted "Fox & Friends Weekend" on Fox News. Trump praised Hegseth’s “America First” ideology and his loyalty to the military, while some Republican lawmakers expressed surprise at the choice, saying they were unfamiliar with Hegseth’s qualifications and vision for the Department of Defense.
