“Production quality makes this show tough to stick with, but the hosts also talk with such smugness as if anyone who doesn’t know all that they know is just not as smart as they are - lots of talking down to the listener.
I just listened to the homeopathy episode which is what prompts me to comment. There is a huge market for functional medicine (which is what it’s called) and other alternatives to western medicine because the AMA doesn’t serve the needs of people experiencing pain, chronic illness and even acute disease very effectively.
The “science” doesn’t support a lot of these issues because there is not significant investment being made in research for menopause, autoimmune disorders, and these illnesses that doctors have no good answers for other than throwing at them expensive drugs with terrible and often debilitating side effects.
I squirmed listening to the hosts snicker and gaffaw at people who turn to these resources. You’re laughing at people who are suffering and getting nothing but a shrug from their doctor. A suggestion to take antidepressants or see a therapist about the fact that your once healthy active lifestyle is no longer possible is not just insulting, it’s crushing.
Say what you like about the lack of science, I feel better under the care of a functional medical doctor - one who takes both western and eastern medicine into account, and who is willing to work specifically with me, listens, and tries innovative approaches in science to help me live my best life. That’s all I care about.
When the AMA decides to fund research to solve these issues I might be interested in what they’re selling too.”
