Awesome idea. Needs an editor
I love this idea and after listening to a few episodes from the beginning to fairly recent, there was a lot of interesting insight. I don’t want to criticize because I couldn’t stay coherent long enough to do something like this but I have a couple suggestions that I think could make this show much more pleasant to listen to. Firstly, The NYT review for the day the movie released is great but like the rest of the show, it tends to wander. I would suggest that unless there are relevant stories that can be discussed in context, to limit this section and combine it with Jamelle’s plot synopsis where he provides political context. Secondly, the recording has gotten better over time and there are some tangential paths that are worth going down and pay off, but also many that just kind of peter out. I think the show needs a trusted editor to know when to cut. And also to take out the “ums” and other unnecessary but completely normal vocal quirks. Thanks for this show, I think it would take a big step in popularity with some editing.

They explore the politics and culture of a genre of film that I grew up with, one that is often ridiculous in its portrayal of heroic masculinity. Always amazes me to see how little has...Read full review »

I named my boat after John Ganz because he lost a bunch of money to me in poker. He and Bouie are great on this podcast.
