This podcast is full of fascinating stories. I generally don’t believe in the supernatural, but I’m still left with a lot of uncertainty after listening to Unexplained. The stories are well told, and the narrator has a lovely voice. He speaks calmly, softly and uses a precise language. There’s...Read full review »

This podcast is like a warm cup of tea on a cozy rainy day. I’ve been listening for years and will as long as it goes on! Amazing story telling and so soothing, it truly enjoy every episode.

This podcast easily outshines others in its genre. Richard Maclean Smith’s writing is top tier and his voice is well suited to telling such mournful and spooky tales. His scoring is uniquely eerie and haunting, and evokes a sense of deep melancholy which accents his stories perfectly. I have...Read full review »

Ads
Wendy’s kept interrupting the war episode - and you already do ad reads. This is tacky. Please fix the ad situation, it’s purely awful and distracting for the listener.

It's a shame. This is a pretty good podcast. I like listening to it in bed. However, recently, there are sponsor breaks every 5 mins and the episodes are short.Read full review »

Started out good, this year it has begun to decline. When you need Patreon, donations, and 4 ads in a half hour show to survive, you’re either greedy or doing something wrong.

Hosts presentation and voice is just perfect and the stories are chilling! As a true crime/horror/paranormal aficionado, I can’t recommend this highly enough.

Richard MacLaine smith, some wonder full story’s and for a change something that makes you really think of the whys and how people and situations can quickly change. Richard sets the story well has a good reading voice and all the stories are never quite cut and dried, they remind me of classic...Read full review »

I listen to shows with similar themes.. what sets Unexplained apart is the fact that it’s so well researched and well crafted that it makes you smarter in addition to scratching the mystery itch.

Maclean Smith is a very good writer. I’m always impressed and engrossed by his writing.

early episodes are outstanding, unfortunately recent episodes’ quality has dropped markedly. Dear Richard MacLean Smith more sources than wikipedia please

I’ve been enjoying this podcast for years. I love that the stories are allowed to remain mysterious, without any attempt to editorialize or solve them. Today’s world is so full of people who claim to have “the answer”; it’s nice to have a place where there is still space to ponder.

Jarring and poorly placed advertising ruins the show.

Love this podcast, the writing, music and performance - not listened to every episode but enjoy the variety. I love the what-if element and I’m grateful there are people making content like this which we can enjoy!

And I would keep listening! The writing is compelling too. Love the stories. Please dont stop the podcast. If you could read the audio book, that would be a massive improvement.

Why so many ads in recent times? It ruins the atmospheric telling of these fantastic stories and makes me less inclined to engage

Every time I see a new episode of this podcast has come out, I’m giddy like it’s Christmas morning! Well written, well researched, and well narrated, Mr. McClain-Smith also has the most lovely, soothing voice to boot! Many of these stories are new to me, but even the old classics are covered in a...Read full review »

A very good podcast, it’s topics range from under sea creatures sinking submarines to demonic possession. The host will give the available information of the story and explain which parts can be confirmed or not. Then with the information you’re left to your own conclusions.

Not only the “supernatural” mysteries of Unsolved Mysteries, but dips into philosophy, science, and literary myth. My favorite podcast by far.

The Sharon Tate episode and the haunted bed mark a dip in quality for these podcasts. Helter Skelter etc. Has been overdone in print and in film and there is nothing new there. I’m not sure why producers can’t help themselves inject politics into completely unrelated stories, but it has spoiled too many shows to count. I search out mystery and paranormal podcasts for an escape from politics, not to hear what the producer thinks about American foreign policy. Too bad!

This show has too many deviations towards the gruesome and evil. I go here for entertainment. Been skipping quite a few stories lately. Enough true crime brutal murders in real life.

I think your latest episode Destination Unknown, was wholly inadequate in its description of the plight of the Uyghur people. There's a serious lack of honesty, with your discretion, as if the Uyghur are an equal force against the Chinese government. Maybe you didn't want to get into too...Read full review »

Man, I looooved this podcast for years and support RMC on Patreon, esp. when the pandemic hit and he lost his original sponsors. Some interesting stories that usually fall apart quite quickly with a little research but entertaining enough. My biggest gripe is the oddly stilted and monotone narration. The strange pauses and emphasis on random words are worthy of an episode themselves.
