This was a favorite of mine and listened often. Stopped due to the jump in advertisements. Came back to give it another try. But my goodness, now the incessant ads ruin the whole experience. Too bad.

I wish I could say I finished a show yet; the droning narration always puts me to sleep

Utterly ruined by both the sheer amount of and type of ads Ridiculously wrong-footed Pure filler No killer

This podcast used to be a favourite of mine but as so many reviewers before me have mentioned, it is now ruined by loud, brash and intrusive adverts. I can see listening figures declining due to this which is a real pity. Please - let’s have some quieter and more relevant ads.

I thought iheart would read the reviews and decrease ads but they've double downed and increased. Now it’s 4 minutes of awful ads every 5 mins, essentially half the pod. simply don’t subscribe to their pods nor many others like them.Read full review »

Love this podcast but almost can’t listen now due to unreasonable frequency and duration of ads

Have been listening to this podcast for years. Interesting stories, well written and great delivery. Used to be an absolute favourite. Unfortunately the jarring, ridiculously long ad breaks and annoying promos for completely unrelated podcasts have meant I rarely bother listening anymore. A...Read full review »

I get it, adverts are a part of podcasts but it feels like they take up a third of this podcasts run time. Completely off putting experience.

At a certain point in every episode he just seems to get so condescending and begins to lecture about the horrible nature of man. Pompous.

I used to love this podcast for its content and the host’s idiosyncratic reading style, which I felt added to the eerie atmosphere of the stories. Sadly, you now get a few minutes of narrative followed by 5 minutes of brash adverts that are completely mismatched to the podcast. The change in tone...Read full review »

Earlier podcasts are amazing! I cannot bear the newer episodes because of the voice of the narrator… it has changed! The cadence and lack of emotion are distracting and impossible to follow. Please return to your normal voice!!

OG fan occasionally checking in to see if he has gone back to his original voice. Listened for years and used to love this podcast but the inflection and cadence of the narrators new tone makes it so hard to listen to now. I can hardly focus on the story all I hear is the same down and up in each...Read full review »

This was a great show, now it's mainly a huge amount of loud, intrusive advertising that I have no interest in. I'm sorry to say, after being a dedicated listener from the beginning, I'm now no longer following the show.Read full review »

I used to listen to this podcast when it first came out. I loved it. Spooky, engaging, the music. And one of my favorites was the voice he read the story in. However, I noticed over the years his voice has changed. The undulating nature is not natural anymore. I literally can’t listen to it now....Read full review »

If you like adverts this is a a great pod for you Also story tellers voice is so dull.

Great podcast that I’ve listened to from the beginning. It’s now jarringly scattered with 3 to 4 minutes of ads every 10 minutes. It really reduces the quality of the listen. I don’t mind ads normally it’s simply too many now.
Lewis9888 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 10/22/24
Used to really enjoy this podcast, but the quality has gone way down this season. Uninteresting stories based on crackpot “Ufologists” self serving speculation and the like.

I used to listen to this podcast. But recently, I was surprised to find the speaker sympathizing with fascists. Wow. Didn’t hear him speak up on January 6th? Strange time to say something. Really sick of this “let’s come together” mentality… and from a white man… who doesn’t even live here?...Read full review »

I cannot be the only one who listened to this as a wonderful send off to slumber, but now is jolted with 15 ads at 2x volume. Bring back and ad-free model, Richard, please!
rdgilby via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 10/12/24
Stories are very interesting but the way the host speaks is really annoying. I couldn’t stand it. It’s just like he’s reading off a piece of paper. No emotion or anything.

Hmm
Some episodes are really interesting but sometimes they spread out through 3 parts and that’s when I start getting bored and losing focus, especially when stories keep detouring. There was at least one repeated episode. There were a couple of very upsetting stories of women being tortured and...Read full review »

This show used to be great. Unfortunately, the latest season has so many ads that it’s almost unlistenable. I get that the show needs ads to maintain itself, but this is way OTT.

The sheer amount of ads make this unlistenable.

AN incredibly boring droll delivery from the presenter. And a ton of ads. I am sorry got rid of this half way through the first podcast

I used to love this podcast. Great stories and well researched. However, more recently the narrator has taken to a different method of delivery with a weird and irritating upward intonation at the end of almost every sentence. The stories are interesting enough and don’t need the new bizarre tone...Read full review »

This used to be a great podcast, but now it’s been totally ruined by so many jarring adverts for bizarre American podcasts. There are far too many adverts for the short length of show, and sadly it’s now no longer worth listening to. Other podcasts have far fewer adverts for a much longer run...Read full review »

I used to absolutely love this podcast, but now it’s just lots of adverts. The quality of writing has diminished too. So sad to see it go this way

Richard’s storytelling is excellent, but the new ads are not just excessive in their amount, but also jarring in comparison to the atmosphere of the podcast. I used to love this podcast, but have turned off every recent episode to which I’ve attempted to listen.
Cjenks63 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/28/24
good grief those iHeart ad interruptions. Was there really no way to serve ads without ruining one of the most atmospheric podcasts out there?

I’ve listened for years. I understand creators need to get paid. But this is out of control. 4 ads before it even starts? I am done.

Very interesting material. Expertly written and delivered in a calm, relaxed manner. I’m not sure what other reviewers are talking about when they mention his odd delivery and inflections. Had a bit of a hiatus and first thing I noticed upon returning was all the ads. You’ve got to chill with them. I turned off the latest episode and maybe I’ll follow again in a few months to see if you’ve changed it up. Richard once had a great podcast. One that I’d listen to late at night and get chills. Got the sense it was a passion project.
