In 1993 I took part in The Living Soap which was the first reality TV show (as we know the format) We had the first diary room with pieces to camera. Admittedly it wasn’t the best show but a lot was learnt about how not to do a reality TV show and it had a cult following. I was surprised that it...Read full review »

I worried this would just be a walk through the history of reality TV but it was so much more than this. Forensic, challenging and not afraid to face into the issues we have seen from this genre. Presented by two outstanding journalists. Excellent listen. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved this podcast series! Great hosts, well researched content!

Their guests are retarded which brings the hosts down to retardation levels. Not for anyone with an IQ over 30. Perhaps you should have studied medicine?

Really good show but would love to listen to the last episode too

I'm liking this, and it's impressive the number of contributors they were able to interview. But there are a few factual errors that are just sloppy. I'm on Ep5, and they've so far referred to the magazine "U.S. Weekly" (it's "Us Weekly," as in you and me, not...Read full review »

I got all the feels listening to this, great overview of mostly British reality tv.

This is a really good listen, however I am very upset at the lack of representation for African-American reality TV shows. Love and hip-hop and will housewives of Atlanta as some of the highest rating reality shows in existence, The fact that they were not even mentioned is quite disgusting....Read full review »

Really enjoyed this. Found it insightful and intelligent while also revelling in nostalgia for some do they shows. Definitely a worthwhile listen.

Feels like a clip show of reality TV best bits that’s been exec’d by some stuffy BBC Radio 4 producer. Might have worked better with an ex-reality TV star reaching the conclusions offered in the show in a more authentic way.

Loved it!

Outright brilliant, and a true must-hear for people within the TV and entertainment industry, and fans (and harsh critics) of „Reality TV“. Congrats to the entire team involved in this podcast‘s production!

Enjoyed every episode so well put together and presented! Each episode was so interesting to listen to and didn’t want it to end

So we’ll researched and presented! The episodes were laid out really well and even if you hadn’t watched a specific show the presenters are so good at giving an insight of what is going on that you never feel lost! Absolutely brilliant!!

So often, reality TV shows attract lazy journalism that just says how terrible the format is. This is different and so brilliant for it. Nostalgic, sympathetic and though provoking. I really enjoyed and look forward to what the presenters choose to do next.
DaisyDupree via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/22/22
Absolutely loved this docuseries! Along with it being a bit like a trip down memory lane (for reality show addicts like me) there are very important conversations about the affects reality tv has on our lives. Also very interesting analysing the way that reality tv has changed in the last 20 years

I absolutely loved this, it’s so well researched and entertaining. I don’t watch reality tv but I got a lot out of this intelligent, thoughtful podcast.

What a fantastic docuseries! Very well researched and presented, with carefully chosen audio clips from the shows discussed. Fun yet challenging - well worth a listen. I was hooked for the 10 episodes.

This is a fantastic series. Interesting analysis, well researched and presented. It was shocking and bizarre to hear the various producers excuse their decisions. The cognitive dissonance is intense. I just wish the series was longer! Some of the themes could’ve had multiple episodes.

So smart and fun at the same time. I’m not a massive reality TV fan but enjoyed this immensely and found it really easy to understand/catch up with all the shows discussed.

I’ve been looking for a new podcast to sink my teeth into and this was it! It hits the right tone between nostalgic (going back to the 2000s with Big Brother), while also raising important questions about how reality TV mirrors our society. It was an uncomfortable listen at times - so many things...Read full review »

You don’t need to be a big fan of reality tv to find this interesting and enjoyable. Excellent podcast.

This is a fairly interesting podcast and certainly revelatory of a baffling slice of culture. However, it opens every episode with the hosts telling us how much they love reality TV and denied it against “snobs” and yet in the next breath acknowledge it’s predatory and exploitative nature. It...Read full review »

I wish there had been more variety. The selection of shows covered were very similar, they could have been placed into 2 or 3 categories max. However it was very well produced and presented.

Brilliant, loved every episode. As someone who watched the hills and bb years ago, I loved the chronological order of it all. Haven’t watched quite a few but still found it fascinating. Very well balanced and researched. Would’ve loved to hear a dissection of married at first sight aus though!

A reminder of some of reality tv’s most fascinating and often uncomfortable (occasionally horrifying!) moments. It took me right back - the episode about big Brother and Jade had me weeping.
