This show just isn’t what it used to be. Originally when they were going through the AFI 100 they would talk about the film they had watched, it was interesting and entertaining. Now Amy constantly (by constantly I mean several times each and every episode) compares the week’s movie to the...Read full review »

When Amy is complaining about/poorly rating classics like Goodfellas and Taxi Driver for being ads for toxic masculinity, and rates the all female Ghost Busters much higher than the original one, she’s really lost all perspective and objectivity. She’s a smart, considerate reviewer (I started...Read full review »

This podcast has gotten me to watch and enjoy tons of films that I wouldn’t have otherwise, perfect companion to motivate you to watch these films!

It’s a fine pod for background noise while working, sometimes really interesting depending on guests. Paul and Amy have quite interesting banter tho they need to be less nicey-nicey. Word of warning, Paul Scheer does a lot of ‘..as a parent’ ‘...as a father’ which as we all know is insufferably...Read full review »

I have never actually listened to this show but Paul is the best so I think I would like it-“five stars”

Paul is great, he’s our ‘everyman’, and I love his takes on movies. While Amy is our real movie historian/reviewer and deserves respect despite what some hateful (anti-American) trolls claim her political ideas are driving her opinions, (as if we all don’t do that) but everything is politics...Read full review »

I came here to read reviews to see if othes have commented on Amy’s voice. I was not disappointed. It’s not just up-speak, there is something more going on. Like it sounds like she is putting on a fake voice. There is also some baby talk in there. It is very distracting from the content and...Read full review »

The one star is for Paul. He is open minded, not completely ruled by his politics. As a result his takes feel more authentic and honest. Amy on the other hand… her very left liberal America hating politics OBVIOUSLY inform her every thought about movies as well as everything else. She had little...Read full review »

This is the only place I can find to respond to Paul and Amy’s discussion about Alien. I was 21 years old and just about to graduate from college when I saw this film. I had majored in literature so of course knew all about rounded characters. None of that mattered when Sigourney Weaver...Read full review »

I listen because I love movies, but Amy has so many issues with everything if it doesn’t meet her political views. Hollywood really should just keep their views and politics out of everything, they are losing fans. How can she judge a movie made many years ago, and put today’s over-woke views...Read full review »

I really love the show when Paul Scheer is giving his thoughts. I have to mentally check out when Amy gives her opinions though because her views are too hard to stomach. She shoehorns her politics into every movie and is incapable of being objective. She is too intolerant of any movie or...Read full review »

I was such a fan of Amy in the beginning. Great insight, but it seems like she hates mostly everything now or has weird negative hot takes. Tired of her bashing what she deems proper feminism, comic book movies, her anti Disney attitude is pretentious. Her putting down Favreau and the Mandolorian...Read full review »

How
I wonder if there is a contract that keeps Paul with Amy, her views are understood and justified but recently are just too overbearing with movies I enjoy. I understand the necessity of taking a modern look at old movies, but it’s to the point that this podcast is mostly Amy being negative and...Read full review »

An all-time favorite podcast. The pace and editing are perfect, the hosts are wonderful and come so prepared, and the podcast is both funny, interesting, and insightful.

Love listening to this podcast. Great to hear two points of view, from a regular viewer to a critical. The differences are minor in the end. I admittedly don’t listen to every episode, only films that I’ve seen, it makes it more enjoyable; sorry, too many podcasts out there.

Amy hates movies she considers masculine or “macho” - goodfellas / French connection/ apocalypse now etc- a bias that disqualifies reviewers

Amy & Paul, you guys are fantastic! I love listening. I came to Unspooled a little late from How Did This Get Made and What Went Wrong, but I’m loving it. You’ll like this more than I do. It’s too inconsistent . And often just factually incorrect. Did that dude say ‘71 was set in Dublin. You’re history is off spud.

But the comedy guy just seems like a shrieking idiot, and some of the ideas - eg asking people who’ve not seen a movie to describe what they think it’s about - just seem totally uninteresting. Who cares?

Amy, who insists on pointing out all of the “problematic” behaviors of countless male directors from decades ago, said that she adores Gloria Grahame....who raped her 13 year old stepson. Amy needs some serious help. Can anyone explain this? Did I mishear Amy?

The constant up speak and tirelessly forced political agenda wore on me. I thought it was just me, but it appears I am clearly not the only one. The wokeness is unbearable. Paul gets every detail wrong (e.g. , Lady "Evelyn" from Mr. Rogers) and mispronounces normal words. Amy doesn't like Richard Linklater because his movies are too much from a "dude's" point of view. Social justice ruins this podcast, as it does...Read full review »

As usual Paul is great. I struggle with episodes that have too much Amy. I think this podcast would be five stars if they had a third cohost to temper Amy (who provides great insight sometimes, but can be overwhelming with too much time)

I like listening to this pod after watching a movie I’ve never seen before, and will continue to do so. However, I do tire of Amy Nicholson having hot takes for the sake of *unique*.
