“Seems like this reporter did very little investigating. She wanted a story for a splash for her new podcast and “cult” sells. However she didn’t build any case for a cult. Not even the basics of defining what a cult is and how this organization meets that definition. I have sat courses in this tradition and one of my criticisms is that they don’t follow up at all to check in with students after their first course. Isn’t that what cults would do, follow up? On the mental health side, I know they do a lot of screening for mental health issues and actually tell people to back off and even stop meditating, at any indication of people becoming unstable. However as a volunteer organization they have some limitations. Since there are hundreds of thousands of people attending courses across the world every year this is not close to the norm. Nor was it fair reporting, but sadly, rarely is “reporting” fair these days. Meditating deeply helps many people but this reporter was not interested in sharing or even looking into that.”
