Our guest this week is renowned psychiatrist, author and media personality Dr Steve Ellen. We ask how he went from the Frankston race-track – literally – to the hallowed halls of modern medicine, psychiatry and academia. He wonders if his son – or any middle class kid – can ever really understand struggle, and gets into the unspoken class biases in both medicine and psychiatry. And, we talk Steve into applying for Australian Survivor. Find him here also - www.steveellen.com   Up Ya...

Shane, Nelly and Dave are back on their own this own this week and they’re chewing the chop-fat over why local government is dominated – or at least highly populated – by working class people, when State and Feds have the whole thing locked down with their silver spoons. Dave claims a breakthrough on this front and Nelly takes it back. Nelly offers “I, Tonya” for Bring a Plate and Shane is shocked to learn that Ringwood had an ice-skating rink in the 1970s. We have to tough it out without Shane... but he's missing for an eerily relevant reason. Dave brings a book about Knowing Your Place, Nelly talks Gordon Ramsey in Prison and we try to work out why poverty is cumulative and compounds itself.

This week we are joined by a rough-as-guts sheila from 1970’s Reservoir effisode of Housos. We ask Catherine “Dev” Deveny what class she is, how  her background has affected her career, whether her “trouble maker” status is class-infused and, whether she gives her kids pocket money. Dev is one of Australia’s favourite writers, comedians and lovers of potato cakes and we’re delighted that she's week's Up Ya Class Bogan with a Heart of Gold.
