“My family has had property on Holden Beach for generations. We were just down at the High Rider buying shrimp recently from Mark and Lori. Wonderful people! As a child I recall a bale of drugs washing up on Holden Beach and my parents wondering how in the world it arrived there. Now we know! There were rumors among the beach crowd but Varnumtown was insular, as many such communities are. It is a beautiful, special area. And it has changed drastically. Sadly, shrimping is a dying industry. The area used to be remote and wild. Now houses cover every inch of Holden and mansions dot the Intracoastal towards Lockwood Folly. Small world. My husband has worked with Kyle in the wine industry. I wondered how in the world he stumbled across Varnumtown! Thanks for this terrific story! When we’re back in the area this summer, we’ll be visiting Varnumtown again for shrimp!”
