A Remarkable Podcast
After three episodes (and a bonus episode that was one of the best interviews I’ve heard in years), Vox’s The Weeds has jumped to my number one podcast spot — out of the 22 podcasts I subscribe to, The Weeds is the one that I move to the very top of my playlist as soon as there’s a new episode (beating out previous favorite Accidental Tech Podcast). "Smart people talking about complicated things in a conversational way" is my new favorite genre. They’re talking about tough and important problems and policies; but no one’s yelling, the insults are not flying, and the most rancorous form of dissent is “I disagree with you and here’s why but I might be wrong”. The only downside about this podcast is that it makes me so sad! Every episode so far has been “This liberal policy idea is really great but here why it’s going to be hard to implement and why it probably won’t work even if we manage to do it perfectly.” And, while I love the liberal policy ideas, I *also* love an adult conversation about how the real world is hard and we have to really work at it and we haven’t found the right answers yet. Smart people talking about complicated things. This is the way the world is supposed to work. In the spirit of the podcast retrospective at the end of each episode, I do wish they would add the show notes directly to the podcast RSS feed. This is a fairly standard convention and makes the show notes available in the podcast client on smart phones and other devices. It would make them significantly easier to consume than having to find them buried on vox.com. At the very least, the RSS feed should link directly to the show notes for each episode.Read full review »

Long overdue! First episode discussion on Cadillac tax was awesome. Agree with Ezra we need more of that, less Trump speculation. We've got his wife over at Podcast for America for that.Read full review »

Listening to three really smart and interesting people talk about really engaging topics without partisan posturing? Yes, please. I can't believe I listened to a whole episode on single-payer health care and the statistics of gun regulations and was rapt the whole way through. Download this...Read full review »

The premise of this podcast is great, and well executed. The line between policy and politics often gets skewed, but this podcast seems to be doing it right! Can't wait to see what they analyze next.Read full review »
