One of my absolute favorite podcasts!
Vulgar History became one of my favorite podcasts within the first few episodes. Ann’s presentation of these women’s stories is fantastic and fun to listen to, on top of the educational value. If you’re looking for dry presentation with no commentary that sounds more like scripted ad copy, this show might not be for you. Just know that you’ll be missing out as Ann presents an awesome, informative, approachable, and down-to-earth podcast. I greatly appreciate how she brings to light the stories of women that history tends to forget or borderline villainizes by stuffing them into a tiny box with no context or nuance. She presents a good mix of the more infamous women of history (think Cleopatra, Elizabeth Bathory, etc.) and women most of us have probably never heard of (s/o to Fredegund). I rarely subscribe to a podcast’s Patreon, but hers is very much worth the money. Her bonus episodes are just as interesting and well-researched, and it’s nice to hear someone call out the terrible things prominent men have done throughout history. Overall a fantastic podcast by a fantastic person — very much worth the listen!
